Meet the Leadership Team | 4 minutes with David Butler

What do you do at 4Sight?

I head up a team of nine highly motivated individuals. We are responsible for delivering 4Sight solutions to meet and exceed client expectations. From basic order processing to designing and delivering complex solutions, my team keeps me honest, and the role is never dull.

As one of the founder members of 4Sight, we decided we did not want to ‘settle for the ordinary’ at the outset. We have removed the traditional “silo’ed” approach of Solution Architects handing over to a Project manager who, in turn, hands over to a project engineer. We create virtual teams who stay actively engaged within the project throughout its entire life cycle to ensure a joined-up approach and, most importantly, a successful delivery.

What kind of experience do you have?

Since completing a school “work experience” with British Telecom, I became fascinated with all things relating to telecommunications. Upon leaving school, I spent time at technical college, gaining formal qualification. I went on to work for many blue-chip communications companies such as British Telecom, British Rail Telecom, Phillip’s Business Communications, Siemens, and Mitel. My years before 4Sight were spent at multi-award-winning Echo Communications, who later became Alternative Networks via acquisition. During this time, I helped drive Mitel sales through design consultancy resulting in increased sales. This, in turn, led to a growth of the business and, in turn, a presales team from just myself to seven highly skilled, motivated individuals, where I assumed the role of head of the department.

Where would you rather be (if not working)?

As with most people, spending more time with family is the obvious answer, but as a self-confessed techie and petrol head, I love nothing better than attending motor racing events. From assisting a friend who races two Porsches at a club level in the UK and Europe, through to watching elite motorsport globally, including F1 GP’s, Le Mans 24 hr, Nurburgring 24 hour and the Indy 500.

In a nutshell, anywhere with fast cars utilising cutting edge and ever-evolving technologies all combined with friends, travel, fine food and drink.

Tell us something that you do really well.

Listening, understanding, evaluating, and designing solutions, all of which are key elements of my role. With a strong customer focus and an analytical mind, I have spent the past 20 years understanding my customers and their business issues, challenges, and requirements to propose and design appropriate solutions.
