Grass roots rugby prides itself on being an inclusive sport, built on the core values of Team, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship. They are a set of values that 4Sight Communications recognise within the way they do business with their clients and partners. The company therefore had no hesitation about sponsoring the Heathfield & Waldron RFC’s (HWRFC) Under 15s team for their tour of Jersey at the beginning of March 2023.

Many of the players within this age group have grown up playing rugby together for this small East Sussex Club, initially with the Minis before progressing into the Junior section. Given their age, they are just over 12 months away from sitting their GCSE exams. This, coupled with the Covid restrictions in recent years, meant the HWRFC Team Coaches were desperate that the players experience a tour together to form stronger relationships, both on and off the pitch.

Following an early flight out of Gatwick, a training session and games on the beach, the squad had the opportunity to watch the Championship rugby match between Jersey Reds and Caldy. The end result was a comprehensive 71-14 victory for the home team, which provided some real inspiration for the HWRFC travelling players ahead of their match against the Jersey Reds Under 15s the following day.

Many aspiring young sportsmen and women love the opportunity to experience what the professionals go through; for the HWRFC youngsters to be told they would be playing their match on the main stadium pitch at Jersey RFC was a massive privilege, adding further excitement and tension amongst the squad before kick-off.

What followed was a very hard and evenly fought contest between the two teams. Jersey Reds Under 15s scored the opening two tries of the game, either side of half-time, to open up a 10-0 lead. The touring team then started to get on top and responded with two tries on their own. Importantly, the second one was converted that put HWRFC ahead by two-points (10-12) with ten minutes remaining. The touring team held-on for a well-earned victory.
